Overview The University of New Mexico is a public university based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The university was founded in 1889 and has since become the flagship university of the state, with the highest number of enrolled students in entire New Mexico. During World War II, the university was part of the V-12 Navy College Training Program, which allowed students to become commissioned officers in the United States Navy.

There are over 35,000 students attending the University of New Mexico. The university has 94 bachelor's, 71 master's and 37 doctoral programs. In addition, UNM offers certificate programs.
