2.1I've only been with Talbots for a short while, but I'm finding the cons outweigh the pros. While it does have a generous employee discount and offers rewards for meeting certain metrics, the company has a lot of issues. Most employees seem like they don't want to be there; if an emergency comes up at the last minute, you have to find your own replacement, which is tough when no one wants extra shifts. The store runs with outdated and inefficient operational procedures, has monstrously high sales goals and you're expected to always keep the store in perfect condition, even as you bend over backward for customers. When the store is not busy, which happens a lot, you can end up spending hours at a time just waiting for customers.
The company needs to come into the current season of retailers. Be current to the customer needs and employment needs, The customer still wants quality, good fitting garments tha are stylish and priced well. Yearly repeats of best sellers are not what the customer wants. As a customer of Talbot's, I am looking for fresh designs that fit well, and still give the classic look. In terms of career opportunities, Talbot's should move around successful managers to under performing stores. Managers that have not been successful are protected in their current store, Therefore, the store should have an infusion of fresh blood or new management to commit to success.
1.6Take a pay cut and stop taking bonuses. the little people who are bonus eligible haven't received one in years but top management sure is. They also need to cut expenses by stop renting a NYC office building and moving staff to NYC
