"This is a good company. The culture is not one that promotes success for all."

What do you like about working at Caterpillar?

"You can get promoted with this company but you are on your own when you start out. You have to drive your own success. You have to understand that everything you do is scrutinized. Do not whine and do not give up. You are not rewarded for learning and sharing you are rewarded for performing and following the standard peroceedure. Build a network as you move up the ladder because it does really help you advance your career. A college degree helps you get promoted at Caterpillar but an associates is all that is necessary to get promoted. If you have the right attitude then experience is all that you need to get promoted but it will take longer without some kind of college."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Go for it! It is a good company with great benefits and great pay and the stock price has been great lately. Be sure you know what you want out of a company because I did not experience much of a team philosophy at Caterpillar. If you are looking for a team, and a place you can be confident that you will be appreciated as a part of the team then I'm not sure this is the place for you. It is not a great company by my definition."

What don't you like about working at Caterpillar?

"There seems to be very little corporate culture focusing on we and team. Many people come to Caterpillar with high hopes for a bright future. They believe they will become a part of the team. Many employees quickly get discouraged or leave completely because there is no team built into the system. One may become more of a team member as they move up the ranks but more could be done to inspire greatness at every level. Like all big companies it is very, Very, political. Mistakes are not a part of the culture of learning."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Does everyone know what they are doing It is often said that the federal government operates more efficiently than Caterpillar. The right hand does not know what the left hand is doing so to speak. Perhaps that is by design. Be great by building great teams. The team aspect is missing from Caterpillar. A lot of blame and not much, We can do this together."
